What Causes Dizziness When On Losartan?

I switched from Lipitor (because of vertigo) and am now taking Losartan 50 mg. The last couple of early mornings I experienced the same symptoms (vertigo) when waking and turning over. I am thinking of discontinuing using this drug. What is your opinion? Also, I did experiment with discontinuing use of Lipitor for a couple of weeks and then went back on and i experienced dizziness again so that is when my doctor switched medications. Thanks

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, let clear some point here first is your blood pressure, is it this much elevated that can only be control with medicine, if this is true then you have to continue the antihypertensive medicine, if your blood can be managed without the drug then you have to stop taking the medicine, in either condition you have to wait for your symptoms to be subside, if it subsides then forget it, if it does not go away then you have to take the following medicine,
1) Tab cinnarizine 25 mg three times in day
even if does not subside the you have to go for ENT opinion, I hope this answer would be helpful to you, take care and have nice day.

Anesthesiologist Dr. Manjeth Kumar G's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
i did not why you switched from Atorvastatin to Losartan.
Do you have high cholesterol or High blood pressure?
Do you have both?
Lipitor ( Atorvastatin ) is a cholesterol lowering agent.
Losartan is a blood pressure lowering agent.

Probably your doctor may recommend to take both the medication i think.

Please consult with your doctor and reconfirm the medication.

As your query is concerned, the possible causes of dizziness are
1. you may have the high blood pressure initially while on Atorvastatin ( you did not took any anti hypertensives at that time)
2. Losartan is prone to cause dizziness and light headedness.
But your body will adjusts slowly with these medication and these symptom will vanishes.

To reduce the risk of dizziness and light headedness, please get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
