Hi Dr Rynne, My friend has been been experiencing the feeling of falling when laying down for the past few days. It s kept her from sleeping and has (over the past 3 days) gotten continually worse to the point where she can t lie down at all. Her blood pressure rises when she lies down and she s feeling very sick at the moment. She s not taking any medication, is a very healthy 42 year old woman, doesn t smoke or drink and is of a healthy weight. Her husband is getting the car ready right now to drive her the hour trip to the emergency room. Is this the right way for us to go?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It looks like positional vertigo (BPPV), so she feels dizzy as she changes position while getting up from bed or while lying down. Yes, you need to visit ER & get her examined & evaluated by an ENT specialist. She will have to go through few investigations along with audiometry test. No, worries. She will get fine. She should not drive for a couple of days while she is under treatment and take good sleep & nutritious food. She can take Vertin or any other medication prescribed by her treating doctor. Staying away from addiction of any kind is a must.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
