What Causes Dizziness While Suffering From Hypertension?

I found that my world is spinning ab0ut three days ago. It happened to me two or three times. some last about 10 to 20 seconds another attack last longer, like a minute or two. I usually closed my eyes and hold on to a wall, I hurried to sit down after the spinning stopped. I took pills or my A Fib and high blood pressure. I need your advice what to do about it next. I am retired and at home. I spent lot of time at bed. Please help. My e-mail is YYYY@YYYY

Thanks for contacting with your health concern.

1. going to your case and medical history, mine symptomwise approach in such case will be:

i. If a hypertensive patient complains of dizziness, it may be due to excess dose or postural hypotension. Put the patient to bed rest, stop the drug for a day, then adjust the dose or use a different drug.

ii. As taking medication for Afib: thus following points are worth mentioning:

- as you will be taking an anticoagulant for stroke prevention in Afib, thus check with your INR [international normalized ratio] regularly.

- as you might be taking pills to control heart rate: thus they can cause an irregular heartbeat and dizziness.

PS. You should contact your Cardiologist right away for further advise. [ECG & Holter's monitoring, underlying thyroid diease]
