What Causes Dizziness While Suffering From Osteoarthritis?

Hi Dr. Rynne, I m 55 and experienced dizziness a little on Wednesday but a lot yesterday and some today. It happens when I lay down (room spins for about a minute?), when I sit up, and when I stand up. I am overweight, and have been having pain in left knee from osteoarthritis and also in my left leg all week. Normal bp is 110 over 70, last time at dr, 130/80-90. a whole lot of stress at work.

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, you need to have X-ray of the cervical spine as with osteoarthritis incidence of cervical spondylosis may increase and dizziness due to nerves compression may occur.

Other possibilities like benign positional vertigo need to be ruled out. Postural drop or autonomic neuropathy needs to be evaluated and sugar levels and thyroid functions alongside detailed metabolic profile needs to be done.

Meanwhile, supplements for calcium, vitamin D3, B12 and folic acid can be used.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin,
