Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sometimes when I lie down and close my eyes I suddenly feel like my body is spinning around with my head at the center. This happens usually if I lie down for a nap during the day. This time my eyes started moving back and forth quickly and continued for a few seconds after opening them. Should I be concerned?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I don't know your age or other details, but the most common cause of what you are describing is called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). It happens when small particles in the inner ear get in the wrong place and cause messages to be sent that you are in motion. Here is a video about a home technique for fixing it. If it doesn't help, your doctor may be able to help you by doing an Epley maneuver. But the technique in the video has helped many of my patients. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
