What Causes Double Heart Beats?

Just had an EKG and showed double heart beats....2 beats then pause, then 2 beats..pause...etc. I don t feel anything like rapid beats or flutter when it is happening. I am relatively healthy 76 year old female, mother died of heart attack at age 82...father had bradychardia and had pacemaker but died from lung/liver cancer at age 81.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are having a kind of arrhythmia or altered rhythm of your heart. It could be an ectopic beats or bigeminy. Nothing much to worry but close follow up is required. Consult a cardiologist and get evaluated, you might require drugs like Metoprolol to regularize your rhythm.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks
