What Causes Double Vision In An Elderly Person?

Hello I m 53 years of age and for the first time ever I am experiencing double vision. When I turn my head to the right and look at images, I see double. When I turn my head to the left, it s normal. When I look straight ahead, it s normal. One time I was on the freeway(At night) as a passenger looking straight ahead and the highway with the cars was double, but when i put my chin down, it was normal. Reflecting back, I remember that my tongue was feeling FAT the night before I discovered I was seeing double and feeling like I was walking tall. I had rushed to the Emergency Hospital where they had performed a Cat Scan, and a MRI. They said that there is no sign of Stroke. I have a eye doctors appointment on Monday . . . Note: Glaucoma runs in my family. What is your opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you might be suffering from eye disease like glaucoma or any other retinal disease. For that an eye appointment is must and till then avoid driving or moving alone as it could be hazardous. Ruling out stroke is a good sign as that might be longterm disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
