What Causes Drainage From Surgical Wound On Ankle?

My husband fell off a roof 8-2-14, he landed on his feet but hurt his ankle and has had 3 surgery's and is experiencing leakage every now and then. It usually is clear with a tint of blood in it. He is unable to keep his leg down for long periods without having it swell up and turn purple. He had 12 screws and a plate put in and had one screw taken out. We are trying to find out what the leakage is from and why he is still unable to walk on his foot without paying for it. We have been referred to a arthritis specialist. What are some things we can do to help with the things mentioned. He also has neuropathy in his big toe and the toe next to it, he is currently taking gabapentin and naproxen. YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that he might be having osteomyelitis in ankle bone producing chronic discharge.
He might require long treatment with antibiotic medicine, scraping and regular dressings.
Consult his treating doctor and discuss about these points.
Ok and take care.
