What Causes Drainage Of Blood During Bowel Movement?

I have discovered bright red blood and mucus in my stool. No other symptoms. I am a 35 yo white female. No weight change, appetite fine. I am not "regular" as in daily, but do have large bowel movements about every three days or so. Should I be concerned about the blood?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain blood and mucous in stools can be due to causes like Irritable bowel syndrome, Peptic ulcers, polyps, gastritis, infection with bacteria or virus, intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, proctitis etc.
I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Colonoscopy, ultrasound, blood tests, stool culture can help in making a correct diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to take a proper diet that will include more of fibres for improvement you bowel habits..
Drink plenty of water and take more of Probiotics like Yoghurt in diet..
Stool softener like Docusate and laxative like Polyethylene glycol can be advised..
Try to go to bathroom at the same time in the morning daily as gradually it can help in improving bowel habits..
Rest of treatment will be decided depending upon the cause..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
