What Causes Drainage Of Pus From The Infected Ear?

Hi, I have a ruptured right side ear which happened due to pocking of hairband 15 days back. I had seen the ENT and he had put me on antibiotic for 10 days. Later after I had to travel by air due to which there was infection in the ear and watery fluid use to come during sleeping time through the right side ear down wards position. Again I saw the doctor who told to continue the same medicine. Later I saw the doctor after 7 days who checked the ear drum and said the healing is good and healthy. But during the night time when I sleep my ruptured ear down wards position than there is thick gel type comes out of the ear. I had asked the doctor who mentioned that during night time whatever is there in the nose come through the ear. He said not to worry. My question is which way do I need to sleep the infected ear down wards or upwards. Pls revert
