What Causes Drastic Weight Loss While Having Elevated Liver Enzyme Levels?

Hi, My mother is 51 years old. She has no disease, her all tests are clear but some months ago, she started losing her weight rapidly, she is thin now. She used to be healthy. Some months ago, her ALT was high, but now her ALT is 107! No, she is not suffering from hepatitis. All tests clear, the thyroid one and ultrasound of abdomen as well. Chest X Ray too. Everything fine, but the doctors don t give any satisfactory answer. She has muscle pain and high blood pressure. And her ESR is also very high. So can this happen because of perimenopause?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

ESR is a non specific inflammatory marker meaning that the levels increase if there is any reason for inflammation in the body. It can never be ignored.
Inflammation may be due to infection, allergies, trauma, cancer , autoimmune disease eg lupus, rheumatoid arthritis

Since she has muscle pain the autoimmune disease should be ruled out by additional blood tests.
Imaging such as colonoscopy should also be suggested.

I hope this helps
