What Causes Dried Blood Patches In Ears?

I have what appears to be dried blood in both ears. I notice it mostly after showering. I doesn t ooz out or drain on its own; I find it by cleaning it out manually. I am a 55 year old post-menopausal female with no medical conditions, NKDA, no medications. No hx of head trauma, no recent oral surgeries. No bleeding from nose or throat. No headaches of blurred vision. I did have a mini face lift (S-Lift) back in July 2015. The only incisions were vertical, just along the ear line. There were no problems with healing. I think I MAY experience the dried blood more after massaging to break down scar tissue, but I m not positive.

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dried blood patches in ears which is something you should be concerned about. It seems you have made injury to ear canal skin by forceful cleaning without knowing depth of penetration. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for perfect diagnosis and treatment. Doctor may use otoscopy for diagnosis of infection along with other tests like tympanometry. Avoid touching or pricking ears with any sharp object and maintain complete hygiene. If infection will be there doctor may prescribe antibiotic course along with ear drops. For now take ibuprofen if not allergic or paracetamol for pain and swelling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
