Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Drooping On The Left Side Of The Mouth?
My wife s mouth suddenly starting pulling to the left or possibly drooping to the right and her left eye also appears to be pulling to the left. She has no numbness or tingling or weakness or slurring of speech. She has no problem drinking or swallowing. Really her only symptom is her face and eye pulling to left side. What would be your advice? Thank you
Droopiness of the mouth and eye to the right or pulling sensation towards left can be due to a condition known as Facial Nerve Palsy or Bell's Palsy.
It occurs due to disturbances related to seventh cranial nerve known as Facial Nerve, that supplies muscles of face.
It can be due to compression of nerve with any major artery or at times tumor formation compressing the nerve. Nerve trauma or viral infection can also be a cause.
I would suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment will be done accordingly. Resolution of the cause can help in reversing the symptoms.
The medications that are steroids and antibiotics are appropriate and along with it you should also do alternate warm and cool compresses and take Vitamin Supplements.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
