What Causes Droopy Eyelids?

Thank you. About a month ago I noticed that my left eyelid was droopy a tiny bit. It was not that noticeable. I also felt a slight numbness in one small place on my left cheek near the end of my mouth (on the left side). It seems to have subsided, but I am wondering if this is a beginning sign of a TIA, a stroke, or something else? The doctor seemed to think that it is Bell s Palsy, but I am not so sure. My mother had TIA and a major stroke, which eventually led to her death. I had Life Line Screening today, and I was told that at least from what they could see today everything in my neck artery seemed okay. Do you have a comment? Thank you so much.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your question in detail.
What you described can be a transient episode of Transient Ischaemic Attack.TIA in family plus one episode of TIA increases the future risk of TIA.But you need not worry if you take proper preventive steps.
If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Certain basic investigations like blood pressure measurement, blood glucose, blood lipids, blood homocysteine levels. This is for assessing risk factors.
-If you already have been diagnosed with any medical condition like hypertension, diabetes ,be compliant with your prescribed medicines and routine follow ups.
-Avoid smoking and alcohol.
-Healthy and balanced diet including lots of fruits and vegetables daily.Avoid processed, high cholesterol and saturated fats food.
-Regular brisk walking for minimum 30 minutes.
- Depending upon the presence of risk factor mentioned above, low dose aspirin will need to be started.
- Report immediately to ER/neurologist if symptoms like weakness or numbness of one side face, arms, legs;difficulty in speech, vision problems or severe headache.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards.
