What Causes Drowsiness After Eating?

I am taking Metformin 500 mg, 2x a day. For the last few months I have noticed I get very drowsy after eating, sometimes to the point of needing to lie down for a few minutes. I'm pretty sure it's caused by my diabetes, and I wonder if other people experience this? My doctor is not concerned because my tests show my diabetes is well controlled.

Hello,

drowsiness caused by diabetes requires a really bad glucose control, which inflicts heavy losses of water and glucose and causes dehydration. Of course you would have more symptoms besides drowsiness, like excessive thirst, hypotension etc
Sometimes diabetes may go out of control because of infections or other random causes. If you're checking your blood sugar (fasting or postprandial) and is within accepted limits then hyperglycemia should be excluded as a cause.

I hope I've helped!
If you have more questions, please ask and I'll be glad to help more.

Kind Regards!
