What Causes Drowsiness Along With Poor Memory And Fatigue?
My mom has been staying with me from out of town for 3 weeks. Her symptoms are: not being able to stay awake, legs have become weak and unable to hold her up, her memory has gotten much worse and she can t think of words to say or says the wrong word a lot. She is 80 years old and has bad knees--both need to be replaced but we don t feel she can do therapy. She was getting around slowly at home, but since here I have to shower her, help her up from chairs, help her walk, etc. It seems to have come on so suddenly.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The most common reason for sudden onset of weakness or fatigue is an acute infection, usually viral. If there are no clear indicators as to the site or source of infection, she should be seen and assessed by a doctor. She may need blood tests such as complete blood count and ESR (looks for infection).
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
