What Causes Drowsiness While On Antihistamines For Excessive Sneezing?
I have been suffering from chronic allergies for more then a decade, which cause me to sneeze 4-5 times right after waking up almost every day. I recently visited a doctor, who told me that my turbinates were enlarged, and prescribed anti histamines for a month to see if they could be reduced to a normal size. Anti-histamines helped for a while, but since they cause drowsiness and dryness, I would appreciate if I could get an alternative medicine that could serve as a potentially long term solution to this problem.
Hi, Welcome To HCM & Thanks For Asking Your Query Here
As you did not mentioned which antihistamine you are using but Drowsiness is one of the major side effects of some antihistamines, such as Diphenhydramine and Doxylamine succinate
There are Newer generation antihistamines such as loratadine and fexofenadine which have been proven to cause less drowsiness than first-generation antihistamines. and they are available Over the counter but i would strongly suggest to consult with your dr before changing or starting any new medicines
I hope it help Thanks & Get well Soon
