What Causes Dry Lips And Dry Spots On Lips?

I have had extremely dry lips for the past two weeks. I have dry spots on my lips now for nearly the whole two weeks. I have tried Vaseline as well as medicated lip balms. Nothing seems to help. Could this be a bigger problem or a sign to something else?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,
The main problem here is dryness of the lips. You need to use a good quality lip balm at least 5 times a day and restrain from peeling the skin of lips. If there is a lot of burning/ itching in the area you may take a short course (14 days) of mild topical steroid cream like desonide cream at night. If the problem is getting aggravted on sunexposure, then you need to use any lip balm with sunscreen in it.
