What Causes Dry Mouth After Taking Balsalazide Disodium?

I have very dry mouth after taking my morning and evening meds. The only medication I take at both am and pm is balsalazide disodium. I take 4 capsules (750 mg) twice a day. I get so dry that I almost choke but drink two bottles of water in the morning and at least one at night. I take 5 other prescription meds but only morning OR night.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it looks like severe dry mouth in your case can be due to side effects of medications as you take a number of medications and one or multiple medications can be causing you dry mouth as a side effect..

Other common causes of dry mouth can be Severe dehydration, Salivary gland dysfunction, Nerve damage supplying salivary glands, Oral infections like thrush, Sjogren's Syndrome..etc..

Consult your Physician andget evaluated so that the causative medication can be reduced in dosage or changed for relieving..

As of now to relieve the symptoms you can do the following:
-For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
