What Causes Dry Mouth And Blurred Vision In An Occasional Drinker?

I started having a dry mouth and blurred vision about two weeks ago. I am drinking probably 64 oz of water a day now, before that I would only drink maybe 16 oz or so. I am 66 yrs old and am not taking any medications. My annual checkup last year showed no problems except my blood sugar was a little high.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as you already have a history of high blood sugar, the dry mouth and blurred vision seems most probably due to increase blood sugar levels and dry mouth and blurred vision are common side effects of increased blood sugar levels..
I would suggest you to consult a Diabetologist and get evaluated and he/she can advise you to get a fasting, post prandial [post meal] and Glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c] levels checked by getting blood investigation done..

If the blood sugar levels are diagnosed as high hypoglycemic drugs will be prescribed as well as lifestyle modifications like cutting down on carbohydrates and refined sugar, doing moderate workout and taking high fibre foods can help in maintaining normal blood sugar levels..
Drink plenty of water as well as chew sugar free chewing gums to stimulate saliva flow as it will ease dry mouth..

A consultation should be done will Ophthalmologist so that a detailed retinal examination can be done to rule out for retinopathy which is common in diabetics..
In case of retinopathy laser treatment and taking injectable insulin is advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
