What Causes Dry Mouth While On Dicyclomine?

I was taking dyclamine. Not right away but after a few weeks I experienced very dry mouth, especially at night. Upon calling my doctor she took me off and has ordered another medication. Meanwhile, I started to get seriously depressed and asked her if there could be a connection and she said this is a side effect. hen I say seriously depressed I mean wishing I were dead. I am a care giver of a sick husband who has crohns disease and alzheimers so it was not surprising that I was depressed. My question is should I get on an anti depressant or will this go away on its own.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is a side effect of dicyclomine. If symptoms are severe and you couldn’t tolerate the side effects, you can consult a physician and ask for alternatives.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
