Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently watched this video on acne and the skin. It said that sea salt was wonderful for skin. I used one of the four or five remedies for acne, which was the toner. The toner just contained water and sea salt. I m trying to cure my acne and get healthier skin. I also been using this neutrogena oil free acne wash with grapefruit and you re supposed to use this twice a day.. at night and the morning. But I have recently seen a change in my skin. It has become really dry exactly in the same spots I have applied the sea salt and water toner. It is really dry and scaley looking sometimes, today I was looking at it and around one of the pimples that I put it on it was peeling. Now, don t get me wrong the toner absolutely worked the pimples were gone the next day when I woke up but why is my skin so dry, is this an allergic reaction or what? What do I do?
Acne occurs due to excess oil or sebum secretion that gets trapped inside sebaceous glands. Oily skin may not need oil but requires moisture. Excess washing and toning may rip off hydration of the skin causing dryness. Avoid frequent face washing and limit to once or twice a day.
You can use a normal toner and continue using oil free moisturiser. Watch for any dry spots. Adequate fluid intake and healthy food is also essential.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
