What Causes Dry Skin In Penis?

Hi doc, the other day I masturbated with shampoo instead of lube or lotion (bad idea, now I know!). The past few days the skin on my penis has been dry and a sort of funny texture, and today it is peeling, like how skin would peel after a sunburn. What should I do? Will it get better? Should I moisturize or wash it? Any products I should avoid on it? Will it get better?

Hello,

You are advised to clean it gently with plain water. You are suggested to only use body products designed for sensitive skin when cleaning. Try to avoid using shampoo or soap directly on the genitals. It may contain harmful ingredients that may trigger your symptoms or cause allergy symptoms.

The penis skin is sensitive, so you are advised to use a moisturizer with shea butter, vitamins and no additives. Wear soft cotton clothes & make sure that the affected area is not being hurt due to friction with the clothes you are wearing. Take antihistamine at bedtime, to help reduce the symptoms of allergy and inflammation. You can take acetaminophen, to reduce pain and discomfort.

Do not touch or pick, applying ointment Soframycin may be cooling and comfortable. Stay away from any sexual activity including masturbation. The penile skin may take time to heal. Have patience, take care of your hygiene and do not let it get infected.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
