Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a dry white patch on the lip can be due to Vitamin B deficiency or it can also be exzematous patch also known as Atopic dermatitis..

It can also be due to persistent bacterial infection causing a dry patch on lip

I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated and treatment will be based on diagnosis.

Do not suck or lick over the lips as it can further evaporate the moisture..
Apply thick coat of petroleum jelly to moisturise the lips..
Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration and prevent dryness..
Take a course of multivitamins for a period of 15 to 20 days to recover from any nutritional deficiency..

Proper medical consultation and treatment using antibacterial, antifungal, antiallergic medicines and topic applications of same can help..

Hope this information helps..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention is clearly indicating condition known as chapped lip . Actually there is very thin ,natural and moist layer secreted by glands which keep the lip healthy .

When we pick , suck or lick the lips we remove this layaer which make the lips dry , scaly , white and peeling appearance. Sun exposure also play role in making lips chapped .

I would suggest you to :-

- Avoid picking and licking of lips .

- Apply lip balm to lips all the times with SPF 15 to prevent them from sun exposure .

- Exfoliate them once a week .

- Apply vitamin E oil at night.

If condition persist after 10 days then consult dermatologist for proper evaluation . Doctor may prescribe vitamin supplement containing vitamin B2 and B6 or antibiotics if infection is there .

Doctor may also prescribe laser therapy or microdermabrassion for discoloration.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
