What Causes Dryness In Throat?

The back of my throat is very dry. My voice is crackly. Water or swallowing only relieves it for a few second. I am a smoker and also suffer from acid reflux. The humidity is low as well. This is a reoccurring problem for the last 4-5 years. Never really seems to cause an infection. Just a nagging dry throat that will not go away for days.
