What Causes Ear Congestion?

I have blocked ears now for 2 days. The first one blocked after a flight and never unblocked and now the second one is blocked I believe due to nasal congestion, what can I do? I ve tried mineral oil in ear, plugging my nose and breathing through my nose, submerging my head in water, warm compress, nothing is helping. I ve also taken decongestion pills and that hadnt helped.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have blocked ears and nasal congestion as well. Well there can be many reasons for blocked or heaviness in ears like :-

- Eustachian tube blockage or dysfunction .

- Sinusitis

- Ear infection ( otitis media ) .

- Endolymphatic hydrops .

I wold suggest you to consult ENT specialist or otolaryngologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may examine ear with an instrument known as otoscope and also order other test to confirm the diagnosis and treatment . For now try to keep your ear dry and give hot and dry compresses to external ear . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and expectorants .
