What Causes Ear Pain And Swollen Gland On Right Side Of Face?

I have an earache in my right ear and what seems like a swollen gland--only the right ear and right side of my face. I did use an earwax remover 3 times since yesterday and did get some ear wax out but I am wondering if I have a sinus infection or congestion what I can get from the drugstore.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN.

Thanks for your query. The symptoms toy mention in your query indication towards swollen salivary gland .There can be many reasons for swelling of salivary glands like obstruction of duct of gland (condition is called sialolithiasis),infection in gland and any kind of tumor.

I would suggest you to consult doctors without any delay ,so that he/she may order various diagnostic test like X-ray,CT SCAN and MRI ,because sometimes swelling of gland gets complicated.Doctor may as you to increase your fluid intake and may prescribe antibiotics course.

Sometimes doctor will open the duct with some instrument. If there is any growth found on or beside the gland ,which is usually non cancerous it should be removed surgically ,so that it will not cause any problem to surrounding structures like facial muscles.

for now drink plenty of water ,give warm compresses to that area and you can take over the counter medicine like ibuprofen to reduce pain and swelling.

If there is congestion and sinusitis ,you should tale steam ,warm saline gargles and consult ENT specialist(ear, nose and throat)

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
