What Causes Ear Pain With Throbbing Sensation?

hi! I am having an ear pain which started after I was cleaning my ear with an earbud. Currently there is pain and looks like the ear might have swollen within as I can feel the heart beat. I did also put 2-3 drops CIPLOX ear drops in the ear. Shall I be taking combiflam now?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

If I were your treating Doctor for this case of dizziness with ear pain or heaviness, I would come up with five possibilities, these include:

1. vestibular neuritis

2. Labyrinthitis.

Labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis are disorders resulting from an infection that inflames the inner ear or the vestibulocochlear nerve, which connects the inner ear to the brain.

3. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo-( BPPV).-due to debris that has collected within a part of the inner ear.

4. medications-ototoxic drugs-gentamycin, aspirin.

5. migraine.

I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon and get detailed ENT examination, otoscopy, balance tests to differentiate between central(brain) or peripheral(inner ear) dizziness, hearing tests(audiometry) to rule out any fluctuating hearing loss.

I advise you to stop driving a two-wheeler, immobilize your self from daily routine activities till you evaluate.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
