Good day! I cleaned my ear with a cotton applicator the other day. When, I removed the applicator I saw a small amount of blood on it. Today, I am suffering from an earache as well as headache. My hearing has also decreased. What shall I do? Years ago, I also had ear discharges (pus) with fever but i didn t consult with a doctor. Now, my hearing is diminishing. Could it be that the symptoms I had before are related with the ones I have now? Thank you.
The commonest causes of pain with reduced hearing and blood on earbud while self cleaning can be self cleaning with anything can cause pushing in of the wax, trauma to the skin of ear canal and hence infection causing pain and headache. Hence, consult your doctor, preferably an ENT Surgeon for clinical examination, ear endoscopy to see the exact cause of your symptoms.
Get started on an anti-inflammatory with painkiller properties like Ibuprofen if it suits you. May need an antibiotic. Wax dissolving ear drops if wax is still present. Continue the further management as suggested by your Doctors. Do not instill anything unless told by your Doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
