My husband has the head cold that is going around, and says his ear is starting to hurt, but it really hurts when he burps. From what I have read it is most likely from the cold he has. but is there anything he can get for it? He is taking cold and flu DayQuil and NyQuil.

Hello,
Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic.com
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Pain in his ear most probably be due to cold, you don't to worry regarding this and it will subside with in few days.
With a cold you can get earache because ear drum becomes inflamed by viral infection. Also the Eustachian tube(structure connecting your middle ear cavity to throat) gets blocked which in turn build up pressure in the ear and cause pain.
The pain generally go away with cold, you can try the following measures for symptomatic relief:
1.Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin) can help to ease your earache.
2.Nasal decongestants like xylometazoline can be used in case of blocked nostrils.
3.Antihistamines like cetrezine or levocetrezine provide symptomatic relief.
4.Steam inhalation twice a day.
If the symptoms persist despite all these, consult an ENT specialist and get a detailed ear examination done.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
