What Causes Early Brown Discharge While Trying To Conceive?

Can water colored light pink discharge be a period? I am four days before it and I have been spotting brownish discharge on and off for 3 days, not a lot, but enough to notice. I thought it may be implantation bleeding but now I am not sure. I never spot this early, usually a day before it gets full flow. I am trying to conceive.
