What Causes Early Menstruation With Heavy Bleeding?

Menstrual cycle came a week early.. Mine is usually every 27 days. Last one started Aug. 11. Unusally heavy. I ve always had really light periods, and cramping the day before it starts. I ve had cramps for every day and the day before it started this time. I m not on birth control. I was on depo, but my last shot was in March. I ve read if it s heavy that it probably isn t early pregnancy bleeding. What else could it be? Thanks.

Hello,

The Depo shot effect lasts around 12 weeks. In your case, because it is already more than 3 months since the last shot, it is unlikely that the bleeding is related to it.
You will need to have a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant. If it is negative and you have not had any pap smear done in the last year, this might be a good time to have one done as well.
