What Causes Edema In Feet And Ankles?

I have edema in my feet. Unexplained.. Comes and goes.. My thyroid, kidney etc function normally.. However, I am concerned I might be anemic because of my heavy periods. I don t typically have the normal anemia symptoms though. I have energy, my skin is not pale and I sleep well. The edema is just in my feet below my ankles. I suspect poor lymphatic drainaige because elevating my fee against a wall and lying horizontal on the floor for about 15 helps a little...My heart is fine too. Ok.. I am perplexed. Any injections I need? Oh and 1 more thing.. also happens during my periods.. is it possible that my progesterone levels are very low.. This scares me because estrogen dominance is cause for many other ailments. How do I get my hormones tested and what is the best test.. saliva or Urine? Help

Hi,

Swollen ankles and swollen feet are common and usually not cause for concern, particularly if you have been standing or walking a lot.

But feet andankles that stay swollen or are accompanied by other symptoms could signal a serious health problem.

Possible cause is LymphedemaL is filtered through the lymph nodes, which trap and destroy unwanted substances, such as bacteria.

When there is a problem with the vessels or lymph nodes, however, the fluid's movement can be blocked. Untreated, lymph buildup can impair wound healing and lead to infection and deformity.

Lymphedema is common following radiation therapy or removal of the lymph nodes in patients with cancer. If you have undergonecancer treatment and experience swelling, see your doctor right away.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
