What Causes Elevated AST Levels?

My husband cured of hep c w harvoni. Never found out how he even got hep c. Maybe as a child during operation After harvoni ast was 40. Tested at six months and results today show still hep c clear but ast now 50. Why would this be. Also could spicy food elevate ast. He eats everything crazy spicy on daily basis. He does not drink alcohol. Thank you. Goes for another scan tomorrow. Liver compensated still functioning no ascites. He only had some slight pains by liver before cured and yellowing of eyes.

AST value of 50 is not significant and doesn’t indicates any liver related diseases. No further treatment is required. It is better to frequently monitor LFT values in every third month.
