I had an elevated d dimer. I Irritable bowel syndrome and I had just been through a bad bought of diarrhea for 7 weeks for IBS and gluten intolerance that I discovered my self .. the diarrhea stopped when I got off gluten.. would it be normal for my d dimer to be elevated 5 times its normal level due to this ?
Hello and welcome to HCM, D-dimer is elevated in disseminated intra-vascular coagulation disoder and other thrombotic disorders. Elevation of d-dimer is suggestive of a thrombotic event in body. However, d-dimer is not associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
