Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dear Dr. Rynne. My name is McDonald Martin, I,m 83 years old and I was diagnosed with malignant neoplasm of the prostate in 1992, In that span of time to now I had very few problems. In 2016 heard of a procedure called Urolift. i was very interested so I made an appoint with a urologist to see about having it done. I brought my medical paper from 1992 to show him that I have this disease. I asked the urologist if this procedure would affect the cancer and I was told no. Since I had the procedure done my PSA has gone up from 1.7 to 10. What advice can you give me? By the way the urologist never check to see about the condition of my prostate or the state of the cancer. I pray you can be of some help.
I would like to inform you that urolift procedure does not treat prostate cancer, it can help with symptoms of urinary tract obstruction caused by prostate cancer and seems to be useful for some men with prostate cancer with urinary obstruction who are not treated with radical prostatectomy.
Since your PSA score is found to be elevated the possibility of metastatic spread should be ruled out first by ultrasound and MRI scans.
Your urologist might offer hormonal therapy or surgery depending upon the stage of the disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
