Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 25. Hi Doctor I went for an LFT test and to my shock all the parameters of LFT test were extremely high especially SGPT and SGOT (both above 200). On further analysis I was diagnosed with Hepatitis A and since then (February 1st I was diagnosed), every week I have been doing this LFT test. Things started to improve with rest, diet control and exercise. My LFT parameters started taking a downturn towards normal including SGPT and SGOT. On 2nd March, all the parameters of LFT test were normal except SGPT level 62.15 (13-40 normal range) and SGOT level 41.93 ( 37 normal level) respectively, a slight higher than the normal levels. On 17th March, all the parameters of LFT test were normal but to my surprise SGPT and SGOT levels again started taking an upturn with SGPT level 66.42 and SGOt level 46.95 respectively.... Can u plz suggest something
Liver enzymes that are SGPT and SGOP [ALT and AST as we sometimes call them], WILL BE ELEVATED IN EVEN IN AN HEALTHY INDIVIDUAL WHO POPS UP PARACETAMOL or OTHER NON STEROIDAL ANTI INFLAMMATORY DRUGS. Hepatitis A causes them to go up in thousands. And there are fever and malaise for which you must have taken the Panadol or Crocin tablets. This is the only reason for their persistent rise that is also insignificant.
Hepa A is a self limiting disease and the only treatment is supportive. You just have to lie down in bed for one month or so and one will be alright with no sequelae. It will cause you to quit smoking too as infection for Hepatitis B in some strange way causes distaste to smoking.
Okay? Stay in peace.
