What Causes Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase?

Hi my daughter is 18 months old and only weighs 19 lbs. She was sent for thyroid and metabolic tests. One came back with elevated alkaline phosphatase. What could this mean for her and what is this? The did tell me that it was not high enough to be an emergency but are sending her to a specialist.
