What Causes Elevated Bilirubin Levels After Taking Crestor?

After taking Rosuvastatin (Crestor) for about a year(5 mg/day), my Bilirubin value was determined as elevated (21). I stopped taking the drug, and the value went down to 11. Now, on my physician s advice, I have started taking it again, and the Bilirubin now has gone up again to 20. My questions: 1. How serious is this, and would it be a reason to discontinue the Crestor use? 2. In that case, what would be a good alternative? email: YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Before using creator what happened to bilirubin?? bilirubin 21 is high , so it may be due to infection or drug induced damage.
In case of drug induced damage there may be elevation of liver enzymes also. What about your liver enzyme report??
Usually statins may cause liver damage in 2-3% of patients but in case of Rosuvastatin liver damage is very less you may need to check other congenital syndromes like Rotor syndrome, Dublin Johnson syndrome etc..

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care.
