What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure After Taking Lopressor?

I started taking Lopressor yesterday...50mg twice a day. I took it twice yesterday and twice today. My blodd pressure became very high on Monday....the highest my systolic has been is 200...the highest my dialostic has been is 120. Since yesterday since I started taking the beta blocker...it has ranged from 148/98 to 171/113....that is what it was 15 minutes ago. How long does it take the beta blocker to start working?

Beta-blocker has already started working. That is why your blood pressure has come down. But your BP is still high. You need a combination of drugs to fully control your BP.
Advice
1.     Continue Lopressor as suggested by your doctor
2.     Add hydrochlorothiazide 25mg daily per oral after meal
3.     Do not stop any medicine without your doctor’s suggestion
4.     Consume less salt preferably less than 2 gram in a day
5.     Regular exercise at least 30 minutes for 5 days in a week. The best types of exercise for lowering BP are walking, jogging, cycling, swimming and dancing
6.     Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables
7.     Avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee and caffeinated beverages
8.     Lose extra weight if your husband is overweight and keep body mass index between 19 and 25. BMI is calculated by formula BMI = Weight in Kilograms / (height in meters x height in meters)
9.     Reduce metal stress because stress activates sympathetic system and increases BP
10.     Measure BP regularly and be in touch with your doctor
