What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure And Pulse Rate?
My friend, age 33, male has history of thyroid problems. currently his heart rate and Blood pressure is out of control but at odd hours like middle of the night. Last evening it was 250/150 with high pulse rate. emergency doctor did not make a diagnosis but to say the heart looked just fine, take this pill and then wait until things go back to normal which it did in a few minutes and then told to seek out his primary care doctor. this happens periodically 3-4 times per year. his BP is monitored daily by his company medical staff. What could this indicate. his family has history of thyroid problems.
Hi & Welcome. I appreciated your concern for your beloved friend. Based on the history given, your friend seems to be suffering hyperthyroidism ("overactive thyroid"). He needs to be evaluated thoroughly by a physician/endocrinologist by certain tests like thyroid function tests, CBC, ECG, etc to confirm the diagnosis. Hope this will help him.
