What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Level Post Cortisone Shots?

I* had 2 cortisone shots in my hips last Wednesday, and then the doctor sent me Friday to the hospital to have the xray to see exactly where to give me more shots. Since then my blood pressure has gone up. Tonight it was 140 over 112. Usually my BP is never that high. I have AFib and I am concerned about the after affects of all of this. My face feels hot and flushed a lot. YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Injected corticosteroids have the potential to enter systemic circulation and increase blood pressure.

In general, the risk of raising blood pressure by giving a steroid injection has to be weighed against the anticipated benefit.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
