What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels After Taking Atacand?

I have been taking Atacand 16 mg once a day to control my blood pressure. Under medical advice I increased the dose to 32 mg daily. Much to my surprise and to my GP the increase has caused my blood to rise rather than decreased as expected. Is there evidence that this may be one of those unknown side effects?
