What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

My blood pressure has been spiking lately. It started 13+ years ago when I was pregnant and never went away. It usually sits (medicated) 150/95 but it has been as high as 187/115 a few times and is always 160/105ish lately. I had an EKG which showed one side of my heart was larger but my echo came back normal. I am over weight but what would cause the irregularity lately?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think it is the progression of the disease that causes the changes. You may need to change medication. What you need for sure is to modify your lifestyle. Try to lose weight and do more physical activity and you will have better control over it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
