What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

I am having higher than usual blood pressure and pulse readings. I took my reading a little while ago and it was high 187/90. I am currently on blood pressure meds. I went to urgent care yesterday and they gave me Alprazolam to calm me down and it worked resulting in a much lower reading. Now I am at home and the same thing is happening, Is it ok to take 1 tab (0.25 mg) before taking another reading?

Hello,

I don’t think you should take Alprazolam drug on your own. The medicine has a risk of habit forming and so needs to be taken with prescription only.

It does seem to suggest that you have an anxiety issue, and so I would suggest yoga and meditation and meeting a psychiatrist for a good prescription.

There is a possibility that you may come off BP (Blood Pressure) medicines if anxiety is causing your blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saumya Mittal
