What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar After Taking Carvedilol?

I am taking Carvedilol and find that it elevates my blood sugar. I can not convince my doctors of this. I have read it over and over. my A1C was 6.8 before taking this drug and now it is 7.2. I have other side effects that keep me from having a life, so to speak, like being so tired and sleeping during the day. I also have back pain, starting about 2 hours after I take it. I think maybe it is because my blood sugar is going higher. Have you had others comments about these side effects? 2

Hi,

Carvedilol belongs to the family of medications called beta blockers and o beta blockers can cause fatigue in some persons, without any effect on the blood sugar.

They can also affect the blood sugar (cause an increase), in a few persons that use this family of medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
