What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Level After Treatment Of Sepsis?
I am a newly diagnosed diabetic diagnosed while in the hospital for a life threating blood infection resulting from a surgery, I am finally getting back on my feet some from the infection. However tonight my bloodsugar level went to 300 all afternoon I felt as if every nerve in my body was jumping and my fingers still feel like the nerves are alive in them jumping is this normal
First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, you might be having undiagnosed diabetes, before that, and that would have caused the wound infection due to immunocompromised state.
However, now you need to optimize the treatment and preferably during recovery insulin would have been superior to oral treatment but Metformin may be started if recovery is complete.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
