What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Levels Despite Infusion Of Insulin?
I am a 35 yo white male. I am 5 6 and 160lbs. I am a land surveyor during my weekdays and a class 5 raft guide on the weekends. I am always on the go. I eat a healthy diet and gluten free. I have been on a insulin pump for 15 years. In the past year my infusion sites become sore after 12-24 hours and my blood sugar begins to climb. I bolus and raise my basal rates but my blood sugar does not really drop much. I am now changing infusion sites daily and I feel like I am always chacing after a 120 blood sugar. I have tried 3 different types of infusion sets all ending with the same results. Any suggestions. I have health insurance but still spend most of my income on diabetes supplies.
You have mentioned blood sugar of 120 but not mentioned fasting or post-prandial sugar level. This value is slightly elevated for fasting value but normal for post-prandial. Any increase in dose should be considered.Insulin resistance and drug interaction should be ruled out.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
