What Causes Elevated Cholesterol Levels Along With Severe Fatigue And Weight Gain?

Hello, 3 months ago I was diagnosed with very bad hypothyroid accompanied with very high cholesterol and all the usual symptoms: brain fog, extreme fatigue, gained 60lbs in 2 years.. (I also went through DCI in situ: 2 lumpectomies; radiation 2015). I was put on 50mg of Levothyroxine 1x daily (I had Graves, hyper, but treated w/radioactive iodine 2003). I m also suffering w/terrible bloating and hard belly fat; I think I have a very leaky gut. Right after the hypo diagnosis, we moved to Singapore from California. I have been upping my dosage by 25mg each month. I am now taking 100mg. of Levothyroxine per day. I haven t seen a dr. since then for my thyroid or oncology. I also feel like I have early onset Alzheimers. I am overwhelmed. Where do I start? Can you recommend specialists in Singapore? Or at least how to prioritize my issues?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Hypothyroidism is known to alter cholesterol levels in blood and cause excessive weight gain. Since you are already on medication, kindly take it as recommended. It would take about 6 months to 1 year for the functioning of the body to normalize. Along with medication, you need to follow diet and exercise regime strictly. You need to consume diet containing low carbohydrate, low fat and rich protein and fiber containing foods. Exercise in the form of brisk walk for a minimum of 30 minutes everyday also needs to be followed. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
