Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 61,exercise daily (spin and power walks), not overweight. I am a prn RN..my cholesterol was always around 150-170 until around 5 years ago...I just got my bloodwork back and my cholesterol is 270. my hdl is 96. my hdl has been quite high the last few years and my cholesterol has increased also. I am on hormones (compounded cream) and I do during coffee using the Kcups. My bp is great, as is my heart rate and ekg. What could be causing this increase? My diet has not really changed over the last 10 years.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The total cholesterol in your case seems high but the total cholesterol is made of LDL (the so called bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol). You have a very high level of good cholesterol so this will effect the total cholesterol so in your case the increase of total cholesterol is due to good cholesterol and is not something to worry. The good cholesterol is probably high due to the healthy lifestyle you have with exercises and keeping your weight in a good level. If the increase in total cholesterol would be due to LDL than this would be a problem.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
